04/01/15 Ban List Update (April Fools!)

Update--- March 31, 2015

Banlist changes:

Banned:

  • True-Name Nemesis (99% win rate when drawn)
  • Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest (Dominant in tournament results)
  • Steel of the Godhead (Makes Geist of Saint Traft decks too strong)
  • Sensei’s Divining Top (Proven to make games take 26 minutes longer on average)
  • Sword of Vengeance (Everyone wants the Swords banned, might as well start somewhere)
  • Hero’s Blade (Fits in every deck, way too powerful)
  • Bronze Sable (Also fits in every deck, power level similar to Goku’s)
  • Force of Savagery (The concept is too creative for most players to have fun with this card)
  • Custodian of the Trove (Hedonist’s Trove is not legal in this format, so there is nothing for him to be a Custodian of)
  • Gaea’s Cradle (Secondary market concerns, $150 is too much for a single card)
  • Edric, Spymaster of Trest (To really drive home the point)
  • Geist of Saint Traft (“There are no cards that deal with him!”, aka: “Hexproof cards should all be burned because I’m a red player.”)
  • Ridley (Too big for Smash Bros, too big for Tiny Leaders)
  • Emrakul, the Aeons Torn (We wanted to keep Show and Tell in the format)
  • Disdainful Stroke (A counter with no drawbacks for 1U? Busted)
  • Heliod, God of the Sun (Our version of Divine Justice)
  • Jigglypuff – D&P: Great Encounters 72/106 (Stalls gameplay due to being too cute)
  • Storm Crow (Storm Crow)
  • Dublin, Ireland (For having a bigger tournament than Winnipeg in its early days as a format)
  • Blue Eyes White Dragon (Attack mode only)
  • Splinter Twin (We want a healthy tournament environment, and we can’t have this be legal when Pestermite and Deceiver Exarch are in the format)
  • Hornet Queen (Green creatures shouldn't have flying- this is a failure of the colour pie. Also, bees.)
  • Elastics (Although I suppose they’re band already…)
  • Two-Headed Cerberus (Dogs shouldn't be allowed to have two heads. That’s terrifying!)
  • Cards with the "Hound" subtype (Sorry. I panicked after the Two-Headed Cerberus)
  • Meta Knight (I mean, have you ever played Super Smash Bros. Brawl?)
  • Oblation (Tucking is too powerful for the health of a Commander game)
  • Sydri, Galvanic Genius ("A turtle keeper has never looked so good"- distractingly gorgeous Terese Nielsen Art.)
  • Treasure Cruise (Hopping on the bandwagon like all the cool formats)
  • Puns (Pun-ishable by disqualification)
  • Chimney Imp (No one should have to read this card)
  • Bicycle (Oak’s words echoed… “There is a time and a place for everything! But not now”)
  • The entire Alara Reborn expansion (No one should be allowed to bring these packs to a draft, let alone Tiny Leaders!)
  • The entire Homelands expansion (You'll thank me later)
  • Phyrexian Obliterator (For being too damn badass – no card should ever be that cool and get away with it)
  • Islands (Due to popular demand)
  • Liliana, Heretical Healer / Liliana, Defiant Necromancer (“Insta-ban” – the entire Tiny Leaders Fanbase)

Banned as a Commander:

  • Anafenza, the Foremost (Lost in a fist fight against Doran, the Siege Tower in the cafeteria)
  • Norin the Wary (Too many missed triggers in tournaments)
  • Storm Crow (Storm Crow. So good that it goes in both categories)
  • Ezuri, Renegade Leader (Not with a haircut like that, you don’t!)
  • Feldon of the Third Path (Too old, must retire)
  • "Sultai" (The Sultai colours were too popular, a vanilla 2/2 is just too strong)
  • Edric, Spymaster of Trest (Just so there's no confusion- Storm Crow levels of banned.)

Banned Players:

  • Bramwell Tackaberry (Finally)
  • Children ages 12 and under (Since the game only caters to ages 13+, we don’t want any trouble in our tournaments)
  • Trevor Humphries (You know what you did)
  • Ross O’Donovan (God damn it, Ross)
  • Brian Kibler (How dare you be so divine and gorgeous and not tell anyone your secret!)
  • Angry Youtube Commenters (It’s time for you to go outside and reflect on your decisions)
  • Joss Whedon (For not continuing Firefly)

Band:

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Red Hot Chili Peppers (also sometimes shortened to "The Chili Peppers" or abbreviated as "RHCP") are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. The group's musical style primarily consists of rock with an emphasis on funk, as well as elements from other genres such as punk rock and psychedelic rock. When played live, their music incorporates elements of jam band due to the improvised nature of much of their performances. Currently, the band consists of founding members Anthony Kiedis (vocals) and Flea (bass), longtime drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who joined in late 2009. Red Hot Chili Peppers have won seven Grammy Awards, and have become one of the best-selling bands of all time, selling over 80 million records worldwide. In 2012, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  • -ing (Pun foul! Penalty: Steven Hamonic is Disqualified from writing this ban list.)

Banned:

  • Steven Hamonic (Excessive use of puns)
  • Edric, Spymaster of Trest (Edric is just banned.)

Unbanned:

  • All Ante and Manual Dexterity Cards, except for the following:
    • Amulet of Quoz
    • Bronze Tablet
    • Chaos Orb
    • Contract from Below
    • Darkpact
    • Demonic Attorney
    • Falling Star
    • Jeweled Bird
    • Rebirth
    • Tempest Efreet
  • Timmerian Fiends
  • Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest (Allows Jeskai to be played in tournaments)
  • Steel of the Godhead (Since we banned Geist of Saint Traft)
  • Descent Into Madness (?????)
  • Sword of Body and Mind (Testing shows it's fiiiiiine, everything's fine!)
  • Oblation (Wait a minute, this is Tiny Leaders!)
  • Progenitus (We needed a five color leader)
  • Left half of B.F.M (Big Furry Monster) (Due to having no CMC)
  • Sidisi, the Brood Tyrant (She should have been 3cmc anyway)
  • All creatures with subtype “Nephilim” (We wanted to open up deckbuilding options)
  • Belligerent Hatchling (Unleash the dog with bees in its mouth)

Restricted:

  • Ring of Evos Isle (The one ring to rule them all)
  • Cards with the subtype “Elder Dragon” (There can only be one)
  • Card Sleeves (Sleeved decks were too tall for such a tiny format)

Notes:

Wow, what an update- we've been promising results for a while, and our testing has finally gotten to a point where we can announce these updates! I hope you all have as much fun with the design space we've opened up as we have!
